Position Summary:
The Payment Poster plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the revenue cycle by posting and reconciling all insurance and patient payments. This position requires an individual with solid experience in professional billing for mental health services, as well as deep familiarity with Medicare Part B, Medicaid, and commercial insurance payers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to maintaining accurate financial records and timely reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately post insurance and patient payments (ERA, EOB, EFT, check, and credit card) into the billing system.
- Reconcile daily deposits, ensuring all payments and adjustments are accurately recorded.
- Post adjustments, refunds, and denials in accordance with payer policies and internal guidelines.
- Review insurance remittances to ensure correct payment application and identify underpayments or discrepancies.
- Process secondary insurance and patient responsibility billing as needed.
- Research and resolve unapplied cash, posting errors, and reconciliation discrepancies.
- Coordinate with billing and collections teams to ensure proper follow-up on denials and unpaid claims.
- Maintain documentation of all payment transactions for audit and compliance purposes.
- Generate and distribute payment posting reports as part of monthly close processes.
- Stay current on payer regulations for Medicare Part B, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.
- Support overall revenue cycle goals by assisting with other billing and AR functions when needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certificate in medical billing preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare payment posting, including professional billing.
- Experience working for a mental health or behavioral health services provider is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience posting and reconciling payments from Medicare Part B, Medicaid, and commercial insurers.
- Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding standards.
- Familiarity with EHR and billing systems (experience with mental health billing platforms preferred).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
